12 Nov Face-to-face Interim Meeting 4 in George Town, Penang
The third face-to-face meeting, Interim Meeting 4, of the SustainaBlue partners took place in George Town, Penang, Malaysia, on November 5 and 6. Thanks to exemplary hospitality and organization of USM and the team led by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Amirul AlAshraf Abdullah and Dr. Mahadi Mohammad, the meeting offered a unique opportunity for a detailed and substantive review of both the deliverables already implemented and those planned for the final year of the project.
Through presentations, roundtable discussions and a warm atmosphere of collaboration, the partners agreed on the medium- and long-term steps, discussed the project’s sustainability and finalized the timelines that must be met to ensure the project’s continued successful implementation.
Now two years into its implementation, the SustainaBlue project has completed significant deliverables and achieved key performance indicators toward its main objectives, such as enhancing the skills of teaching staff from the four Asian HEIs and modernizing academic offerings for a sustainable Blue Economy; transferring research and teaching outcomes to local coastal communities; improving students’ skills in sustainable blue economy sectors and reskilling and upskilling the active workforce in blue industries; strengthening the capacities of HEIs staff for collaboration with stakeholders and the blue economy industry, and raising awareness about sustainable blue careers, especially among women.
We continue with steady progress and a spirit of collaboration across two continents and four countries, building solid foundations and innovative tools for a Sustainable Blue Economy with international impact.
