30 Jun Successful implementation of short training programs for young volunteers under the SustainaBlue project
Within the framework of the European SustainaBlue project, a series of short training programs organized by the Sustainable Blue Economy Centers (SBECs) of collaborating Asian universities (UMT, USM, ITS, UI) has concluded with great success. The training focused on activating and engaging local communities, reaching hundreds of young volunteers, university students, school pupils, teachers and local representatives. Through interactive workshops, field applications – such as coral reef restoration techniques, marine ecosystem assessment and the use of bioinformatics tools – and online sessions, participants gained valuable knowledge and skills to support the blue economy and green transition.
The programs saw exceptional turnout, exceeding initial targets and attracting a diverse group of participants, from students to volunteers from local communities and school students. Participants engaged actively in discussions, raised key questions about local environmental challenges and exchanged ideas on how they can act as agents of change. At the same time, the initiatives fostered strong links between academia, civil society, local stakeholders and environmental organizations.
This educational initiative reinforces SustainaBlue’s commitment to turning knowledge into collective action, empowering coastal communities and building a sustainable future for the Blue Economy.
