Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) (leader)

UMT is a marine-focused university with the mission of generating knowledge for the well-being of the community and the preservation of nature. UMT has diverse programs and research that comprise traditional ocean industries such as marine biodiversity, fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, and maritime transport, as well as new and emerging activities such as ocean renewable energy, marine biotechnology, carbon sequestration, coastal protection, waste disposal and bioprocessing. There are six faculties at the university: the faculty of Maritime Studies, faculty of Science and Marine Environment, faculty of Ocean Engineering Technology and Informatics, faculty of Fisheries and Food Science, faculty of Business, Economics and Social Development, and the faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics. UMT plays an active role in the development of society, economy and education through the expansion of services to the local community and the younger generation of Malaysia.

Main tasks: Project coordinator-leader of WP1, co-leader of WP3, contribution to the implementation of activities under WP2, 3, 4, 5, 6, overall coordination of all national level activities.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)

USM is a public research university, among the oldest institutes of higher learning in Northern Malaysia. It offers courses ranging from Natural Sciences, Applied Sciences, Medical and Health Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences to Building Science and Technology, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Education. The School of Biological Sciences emphasises interdisciplinary approach in research tapping the potentials of biological sciences (such as microbiology, biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology), engineering (biochemical engineering) and chemistry.

Main tasks: leader of WP5, co-leader of WP6, contribution to the implementation of activities under WP2, 3, 4.

UI is one of the leading research universities in Indonesia that continues to pursue the highest achievements in terms of discovery, development, and knowledge diffusion regionally and globally. The University has 14 faculties, two schools and one vocation program. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is aimed to be a centre of excellence in science education, research, and community services. It offers bachelor, master and doctorate programmes in biology and master’s in marine sciences.

Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology / Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)

ITS is a leading university in the field of science and technology in Indonesia. It offers more than 200 programs with various fields of study. The Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Data Analytics, offers a broad range and high quality of programs on biological science and technology, and has 4 laboratories to ensure high-quality research and teaching: Laboratory of Ecology; Laboratory of Plant Bioscience and Technology; Laboratory of Zoology and Animal Engineering; Laboratory of Microbiology and Biotechnology.

University of the Aegean, Department of Marine Sciences (UAegean)

UAegean is situated in 6 islands in the Aegean Archipelago. The Department of Marine Sciences (DMS) is the only university department in Greece that offers Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. degrees in Oceanography, while conducting international level research in various areas related to the marine environment, such as climate change, ecosystem functioning and health, marine biodiversity and conservation, fisheries, aquaculture and marine resources in general, as well as coastal zone problems such as coastal erosion and pollution. DMS stands at the forefront of marine research, using observations, modelling and technologically innovative approaches.

Symplexis

Symplexis

Symplexis in an NGO specialised in promoting social integration for the benefit of vulnerable groups, with a significant track record in transnational cooperation projects, which include consultation, research and needs analysis, awareness raising, training and capacity building activities. Symplexis also has wide experience in fostering cooperation between academic and non-academic actors both in EU and non-EU countries, working also with HEIs in Asia. Last but not least, Symplexis works on promoting sustainable environmental protection both in terms of capacity building of professionals and awareness raising of the general public/local communities.

Main tasks: leader of WP2, overall coordination of transnational training activity for Asian HEIs in Greece, contribution to the implementation of activities under WP3, 4, 6.

Aegean Rebreath (AR)

AR is a multi-sectoral organisation focusing on the development of holistic models for the protection and restoration of the marine environment. Through integrated programs, they seek to change the way people interact with the sea, creating synergies between coastal communities, civil society, local, regional and national authorities working. The organisation’s unique model engages communities across five key areas: implementing underwater and coastal clean ups; promoting proper waste management systems; educating, advocating and raising awareness; fostering research; and developing the first Blue Municipalities Network in Greece. The Blue Municipalities Network currently consists of 19 island and coastal municipalities across Greece and brings together municipal employees, the fishing community, the civil society and the local community with the aim of providing orientations at central government level, as well as developing and sharing good practices, and planning holistic actions for the protection of the marine environment.

University of Cyprus - Oceanography Centre

University of Cyprus, Oceanography Centre (UCY)

The Oceanography Center is a Research Unit in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences. It is Cyprus’ institution for ocean research and one of the operational marine core and downstream forecasting and monitoring centres in the Mediterranean. It conducts basic and applied research in the fields of ocean physics and dynamics, remote sensing, operational oceanography, biological and chemical oceanography and dedicated ocean and marine data and metadata bases and information systems, etc.

Main tasks: co-leader of WP2, contribution to the implementation of activities under WP3, 4, 6.

Center for Social Innovation (CSI)

CSI focuses on developing and introducing disruptive solutions to systemic social, education and economic problems. It works mainly in the fields of education rationalisation & alignment with industry needs; entrepreneurship skills development; social problem improvements through social innovation; unemployment reduction through targeted education; seed financing services & start-up facilitation. It has advanced capacity in instructional design, digital environments development and active engagement methods and practices in the fields of Education and Training, labour market, SME, sustainable development, project management, project evaluation, product validation, and training.

PT Pandu Bina Sejahtera (PT.PBS)

PT.PBS is a company engaged in the management of co-working space and community business incubation with the aim of improving the community’s economy and maximising the potential of biodiversity-based resources. It builds a Biodiversity Business Ecosystem with the community increasing HR capacity and maximising regional potential by prioritising sustainable economy. The Ecosystem provides an opportunity for the community to manage their territory together, through various lines, starting from raw materials, finished products, to managing waste into economic value. Together with academics, it disseminates technology from HEIs to the community to increase the value of research, so that it has a direct impact on solving societal problems.

Main tasks: Contribution to the implementation of activities under WP2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

Malaysian Aquaculture Development Association (MADA)

MADA is the association of aquaculture farming operators and investors. The current membership, which has also extended to various suppliers of aquaculture inputs, has a size of 400 members. It develops cooperation among its members, promotes the growth and development of the aquaculture industry in Malaysia, organises seminars, conferences, training courses, exhibitions and related activities.
