Piloting of the new courses

Result-5 aims to modernise the academic offer of the four Asian HEIs towards an innovative and sustainable blue economy, improve students’ skills and employability in the sustainable blue economy sectors and enhance the reskilling and upskilling of the active labour force in blue industries with the next generation of blue skills.

The leader of Result-5 is the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and the Result’s main tasks are:

• Piloting of the online courses with HEIs students and with professionals
• Organization of placements/traineeships for students in enterprises
• Pilots evaluation

Core Deliverables

The core deliverables of this Result focus on registering the courses developed by each Asian HEI as elective courses in the curricular and implementing a 12-month pilot of these courses. Subsequently, each HEI will organise 10-20 work placements in blue economy enterprises, with remote and group project options. Employers will be invited to propose placements, appoint mentors and follow a provided guide. In the end, the HEIs will evaluate the pilot courses and placements, with USM is expected to summarise findings and recommendations. Necessary course adaptations will be made based on the evaluation results to ensure alignment with labour market needs.
